It provides alternative choices for type of<br \/>\ninsulation, core assembly, color code, sheath design (shielding<br \/>\nmaterials, single or double jackets, and jacket thickness), and<br \/>\nscreened or non-screened core. <\/p>\n<p>PURPOSE: <\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this Standard is to establish generic technical<br \/>\nrequirments that may be referenced by individual telecommunications<br \/>\ncable specifications covering products intended for normal outside<br \/>\nplant use.  The parameters covered provide material,<br \/>\nconstruction, and performance requirements that are applicable to<br \/>\naircore, polyolefin insulated and jacketed cables of all pair<br \/>\ncounts, including a variety of shield and jacket combinations and<br \/>\noptional compartmental screening. <\/p>\n<p>Because this Standard does not cover all details of individual<br \/>\ncable design, it cannot be used as a single document for<br \/>\nprocurement of product.  It is intended to be used in<br \/>\nconjunction with an individual product specification that provides<br \/>\ncomplete design details for the specific cable type and designates<br \/>\nthe applicable performance requirements.  Such individual<br \/>\ncable specifications may be prepared either by the user or the<br \/>\nmanufacturer.
