CSA Preface<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is the second edition of CSA C22.2 No. 60335-2-9, Household and similar electrical appliances \u2014 Safety \u2014 Part 2-9: Particular requirements for grills, toasters and similar portable cooking appliances<\/em>, which is an adoption, with Canadian deviations, of the identically titled IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Standard 60335-2-9 (seventh edition, 2019-05). It supersedes the previous edition published in 2014 as CAN\/CSA-C22.2 60335-2-9 (adopted IEC 60335-2-9:2008+A1:2012). It is one in a series of Standards issued by CSA Group under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code.<\/p>\n

This Standard is intended to be used in conjunction with CAN\/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-1:16, Household and similar electrical appliances \u2014 Safety \u2014 Part 1: General requirements (adopted IEC 60335-1:2010+ A1:2013, with Canadian deviations).<\/p>\n

This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.<\/p>\n

Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This clause of Part 1 is replaced by the following.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This International Standard deals with the safety of electric portable appliances for household and similar purposes that have a cooking function such as baking, roasting and grilling, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

NOTE 101 Examples of appliances that are within the scope of this standard are \u2013 barbecues for indoor use;<\/p>\n

\u2013 breadmakers;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 candy floss appliances;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 cookers;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 food dehydrators;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 hotplates;<\/p>\n

\u2013 induction wok hotplates;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 pop-corn makers;<\/p>\n

Examples are illustrated in Figure 101.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Appliances intended for normal household and similar use and that may also be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard. However, if the appliance is intended to be used professionally to process food for commercial consumption, the appliance is not considered to be for household and similar use only.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances that are encountered by all persons in and around the home. However, in general, it does not take into account<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 persons (including children) whose<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2022 physical, sensory or mental capabilities; or<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2022 lack of experience and knowledge<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

prevents them from using the appliance safely without supervision or instruction;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 children playing with the appliance.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements could be necessary;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 in many countries, additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour and similar authorities.<\/p>\n
