Published By Publication Date Number of Pages
JIS 2013-10-21 13
]]>
This Standard specifies a gravimetric method for determining the mass per unit area (surface density) of anodic oxidation coatings (hereafter referred to as "coatings") on products of aluminium and its alloys (hereafter referred to as "products").

The method is applicable to all oxidation coatings formed by anodizing aluminium and its alloys, cast and wrought, and is suitable for most aluminium alloys, except those in which the copper content is 6 % or greater.

NOTE 1 If the thickness is known with sufficient precision, determination of the mass per unit area (surface density) of the coatings will enable its apparent density to be calculated.

Conversely, if the conditions of application of the coating and its density are known, the determination of its mass per unit area (surface density) can permit calculation of the average mass and an approximate evaluation of the thickness.

NOTE 2 The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

ISO 2106: 2011 Anodizing of aluminium and its alloys-Determination of mass per unit area (surface density) of anodic oxidation coatingsGravimetric method (MOD)

The symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/ lEC Guide 21-1.

]]>
This Standard specifies the testing method of sealing by the chromic-phosphoric solution immersion test on anodic oxidation coatings (hereafter referred to as "coatings") applied to the products manufactured from aluminium and aluminium alloys (hereafter referred to as "products").

This Standard includes the following two testing methods.

– Method 1 : The method without prior acid treatment applicable to the coatings intended for decorative or protective purpose.

For less severe applications, this method may be suitable.

– Method 2 : The method with prior acid treatment applicable to the coatings intended for architectural purpose or the like.

These methods are not applicable to the following.

a) Hard-type coatings to which sealing treatment is not applied

b) Coatings sealed with dichromate

c) Chromic acid coatings

d) Coatings to which hydrophobic treatment is applied

NOTE 1 The methods are destructive and can serve as reference methods in case of doubt or dispute regarding the results of the test for loss of absorptive power (JIS H 8683-1) or the measurement of admittance (JIS H 8683-3).

NOTE 2 The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows:

ISO 3210 : 2010 Anodizing of aluminium and its alloys – Assessment of quality of sealed anodic oxidation coatings by measurement of the loss of mass after immersion in phosphoric acid/chromic acid solution (MOD) The symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the con-tents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/lEC Guide 21-1.

This Standard specifies the testing method of sealing by the dye-spot test on anodic oxidation coatings (hereafter referred to as "coatings") applied to the products manufactured from aluminium and aluminium alloys (hereafter referred to as "products").

This method is suitable for use as a production control method and is applicable to coatings which may be subjected to weathering or aggressive environments, or where resistance to staining or others is important.

However, the results of this method may be incorrect where nickel salts, cobalt salts, organic additives, etc. are added to the sealing solution.

This method is not applicable to the following coatings.

a) Coatings formed on alloys containing 2 % or more of copper and/or 4 % or more of silicon

b) Coatings sealed by dichromate

c) Coatings given supplementary processing, e.g., oiling, waxing or lacquering

d) Coatings coloured in deep shades

e) Coatings of less than 3 µm thick
