It applies<br \/>\nonly to OFAs using active fibres, containing rare-earth dopants,<br \/>\npresently commercially available.<\/p>\n<p>The object of this standard is:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 to establish uniform requirements for transmission, operation,<br \/>\nreliability and environmental properties of OFAs;<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 to provide assistance to the purchaser in the selection of<br \/>\nconsistently high-quality OFA products for his particular<br \/>\napplications.<\/p>\n<p>NOTE -This International Standard has been prepared from the<br \/>\nexperience with Erbium-doped silicabased fibre amplifiers,<br \/>\noperating in the 1 550 nm wavelength region.
