This document establishes a vocabulary of terms and semantics for all fields of respiratory care involving mechanical ventilation,<\/i> such as intensive-care ventilation<\/i>, anaesthesia ventilation<\/i>, emergency and transport ventilation<\/i> and home-care ventilation,<\/i> including sleep-apnoea<\/i> breathing<\/i>–therapy equipment<\/i>. It is applicable<\/p>\n

\u2014 in lung ventilator<\/i> and breathing<\/i>-therapy device standards,<\/p>\n

\u2014 in health informatics standards,<\/p>\n

\u2014 for labelling on medical electrical equipment<\/i> and medical electrical systems,<\/i><\/p>\n

\u2014 in medical electrical equipment<\/i> and medical electrical system<\/i> instructions for use and accompanying documents,<\/i><\/p>\n

\u2014 for medical electrical equipment<\/i> and medical electrical systems<\/i> interoperability, and<\/p>\n

\u2014 in electronic health records.<\/p>\n

This document is also applicable to those accessories intended by their manufacturer<\/i> to be connected to a ventilator<\/i> breathing system<\/i> or to a ventilator<\/i>, where the characteristics of those accessories can affect the basic safety or essential performance of the ventilator<\/i> and ventilator<\/i> breathing system<\/i>.<\/p>\n

NOTE This document can also be used for other applications relating to lung<\/i> ventilation<\/i>, including non-electrical devices and equipment, research, description of critical events, forensic analysis and adverse event (vigilance) reporting systems.<\/p>\n

This document does not specify terms specific to breathing<\/i>-therapy equipment, or to physiologic closed-loop ventilation<\/i>, high-frequency ventilation<\/i> or negative-pressure ventilation<\/i>; nor to respiratory support using liquid ventilation<\/i> or extra-corporeal gas exchange, or oxygen, except where it has been considered necessary to establish boundaries between bordering concepts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
