It is presented for convenient use<br \/>\nwhen the face plates are fibre-reinforced laminates. It applies to<br \/>\nflat, or slightly curved, panels with thin orthotropic face plates<br \/>\nhaving their principal axes of orthotropy aligned with the sides.<br \/>\nThe face plates may be of different materials and thicknesses and<br \/>\nthe core is assumed to have zero flexural stiffness.<br \/>\nSimply-supported edges are assumed, but guidance is provided on the<br \/>\nuse of effective panel dimensions to allow consideration of other<br \/>\nedge conditions. Predictions of natural frequency are compared with<br \/>\ntest results from the literature for panels with fibre-reinforced<br \/>\nface plates and agree to within 10 per cent.
