This Standard specifies the appearance, shapes and permissible variations thereof as well as the dimensions, mass and tolerances thereon of the hot rolled steel plates, sheets (including cut lengths from steel strips) and strips.

This Standard is not applicable to the flat steel.

The application of this Standard shall be specified in the relevant product standards.

NOTE: The International Standard corresponding to this Standard is as follows.

ISO 7452:2002 Hot-rolled structural steel plates—Tolerances on dimensions and shape (MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/IEC Guide 21.
