This part of IEC 61558 deals with the safety of transformers for construction sites<\/b> and power supply units<\/b> incorporating transformers for construction sites<\/b>. Transformers<\/b> incorporating electronic circuits<\/b> are also covered by this standard.<\/p>\n NOTE 1 Safety includes electrical, thermal and mechanical aspects.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Unless otherwise specified, from here onward, the term transformer<\/b> covers transformers for construction sites<\/b> and power supply units<\/b> incorporating transformers for construction sites.<\/b><\/p>\n This part is applicable to stationary<\/b> or portable<\/b>, single-phase or polyphase, air-cooled (natural or forced) independent<\/b> or associated transformers, being isolating<\/b> or safety isolating dry-type transformers<\/b> for the use on construction sites.<\/b> The windings may be encapsulated or non-encapsulated.<\/p>\n The rated supply voltage<\/b> does not exceed 1 000 V a.c., and the rated supply frequency<\/b> and the internal operating frequencies<\/b> do not exceed 500 Hz.<\/p>\n This standard used in combination with Part 2-16 for Switch mode power supply units<\/b> (SMPS<\/b>) is also applicable to power supplies<\/b> with internal operating frequencies<\/b> higher than 500 Hz. Where the two requirements are in conflict the most severe take precedence<\/p>\n The rated output<\/b> does not exceed:<\/p>\n 25 kVA for single-phase transformers;<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n 40 kVA for poly-phase transformers.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n This part is applicable to transformers<\/b> without limitation of the rated output<\/b> subject to an agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer.<\/p>\n NOTE 2 Transformers<\/b> intended to supply distribution networks are not included in the scope.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Isolating transformers<\/b> and power supply units<\/b> incorporating isolating transformers for construction sites<\/b> have a no-load output voltage<\/b> and a rated output voltage<\/b> exceeding 50 V a.c. and not exceeding 250 V a.c.<\/p>\n Safety isolating transformers<\/b> and power supply units<\/b> incorporating safety isolating transformers for construction sites<\/b> have a no-load output voltage<\/b> and a rated output voltage<\/b> not exceeding 50 V a.c.<\/p>\n NOTE 3 This standard is applicable to transformers<\/b> for the supply of electricity in locations as specified in IEC 60364-7-704. The latter also specifies the protection by using an earthed midpoint or starpoint of the output winding<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Transformers<\/b> and power supply units<\/b> covered by this part are used in applications where it is required by the installation rules or by the appliance specification for protection purposes.<\/p>\n When the transformers<\/b> or power supply units<\/b> are incorporated into low voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies for construction sites<\/b> as specified in IEC 60439-4, the additional requirements of IEC 60439-4 will apply to the assembly.<\/p>\n NOTE 4 For transformers<\/b> filled with liquid dielectric or pulverised material, such as sand, additional requirements are under consideration.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n NOTE 5 Attention is drawn to the following:<\/p>\n measures to protect the enclosure<\/b> and the components inside the enclosure<\/b> against external influences like fungus, vermin, termites, solar-radiation and icing should also be considered;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n the different conditions for transportation, storage, and operation of the transformers<\/b> and power supply units<\/b> should also be considered;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n additional requirements in accordance with other appropriate standards and national rules may be applicable to transformers<\/b> and power supply units<\/b> intended for use in special environments such as tropical environment.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n NOTE 6 Future technological development of transformers<\/b> may necessitate a need to increase the upper limit of the frequencies, until then this standard may be used as a guidance document.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Safety of transformers, reactors, power supply units and combinations thereof – Particular requirements and tests for transformers and power supply units for construction sites<\/b><\/p>\n\n
